One of the Mahoning Valley's largest employers used to be General Motors until March 2019 when the Lordstown plant where the Chevrolet Cruzes were built closed with an uncertain future. 

The stories coming out of this plant were always top news for Youngstown's daily newspaper. They will continue to be even with no product currently coming out of the plant.

GM cuts second shift at Lordstown
The future of the General Motors Lordstown Assembly Complex remains to be seen. What's known now is the second will be eliminated June 15 —slicing the number of employed from 3,000 to 1,500.

Cruze sales post 10 months of declines
The struggle of the compact car continued in February. The Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze had 9,947 sales in February 2018, down 21 percent from last February’s sales of 12,623, General Motors said Thursday.
UAWs now merged say: bring it, we will build it
United Auto Workers locals 1112 and 1714 are merged. Local 1112 now represents all 3,000 workers at the General Motors Lordstown Complex where the Chevrolet Cruze, a compact car, is produced.

Merger will secure future
Autoworkers signed the charter to establish United Auto Workers Local 1714 on Aug. 14, 1970.

Unions to merge
Leaders of the local United Auto Workers unions are hopeful the move to combine two unions will benefit the future of General Motors Lordstown.
